Bluebird, the ultimate departmental store, keeps reinventing itself and priding itself on being an elegant and most comfortable shopping venue. Each year, with a view to create an eventual blend of world-class entertainment and shopping bonanza, Bluebird has been hosting the most impressive shopping cum entertainment mega events.
Initially, the shopping festival was conceived with a primary aim of revitalizing trade.
Along the lines of the stature that Bluebird has achieved with its clarity of vision, innovation, initiative and drive, the festivals were shaped under a committed leadership and a mission rising above the horizon. As months of preparations went into creating the shopping festivals, it gradually matured into a major entertainment extravaganza. The Festival Bonanza was staged for the very first time on October 1998. The events added a special significance to promotional activities for enhancing sales and services.
Presented below are highlights of the past editions of Bluebird Shopping Festival, showing the evolution of the event into a major attraction for shoppers.
The first ever ‘Singapore Airlines Bluebird Festival Bonanza’, in October 1998,was a joint venture between Bluebird and Singapore Airlines and a special proffer to mark the ‘Visit Nepal Year’ as well as Singapore Airlines’ 51 st anniversary. It was also to aware people about the added flight of the Singapore Airlines then flying thrice weekly from Kathmandu to Singapore. The special offer to purchasers was the golden opportunity to participate in a quiz contest and lucky draw which comprised of first prize complimentary Singapore round trip ticket and a watch, courtesy of Singapore Airlines and Sulux Centre. Other attractions were special discounts on fashion wear, trips to pokhara, Chitwan and lots more exciting gifts. The promotional scheme was successful in drawing large number of people from all walks of life.
The month-long festival saw its winners in the following month. Mr. M. K. Shrestha, Ms. Kritika Golchha, S. Neupane, Nina Shrestha, Dr. A.S. David emerged as lucky draw winners, while they were others who received varied attractive gift hampers.
The grand success and the popularity of the event led Bluebird to host the festival bonanza for three consecutive years, i.e in October 1999 and in 2000 as well, which no doubt proved to be very interesting and attractive promotional schemes. Few names among the list of winners of the ‘Singapore Airlines Bluebird Festival Bonanza -1999’ were Maushami Shrestha, Renu Lohani, S.K. Pandey, Greta Rana and others.
The year 2001 saw Bluebird emerge with a very innovative concept ‘Bluebird Scratch & Win Festival Bonanza’ which offered shoppers an opportunity to win more than 20,000 attractive prizes. Nepal during the festival seasons, especially during Dashain and Tihar, transforms into an unusual tint of pageantry, celebration, fun and excitement. Bluebird’s this inventive scheme was an effort to add more to that very fun and excitement. The highlight of the event was an opportunity to receive a Scratch Card on every purchase of Rs. 1,000. The customers could scratch and win fabulous festival gifts ranging from Philips electronic items to mesmerizing holiday packages and various other gift hampers sponsored by Philips, Samsonite, the Bluebird Hotel Pokhara, San Miguel, Cosmic Air and Fun World.
With an outstanding accomplishment from the above concept, Bluebird launched another special Dashain Tihar Scheme – the ‘Bluebird Rio Scratch N Win Festival’ which lasted from September to December 2002. The scheme offered more than 30,000 attractive gifts, manifold higher than that offered the previous year. For every purchase of Rs.1, 000, customers were entitled to a Scratch Card which offered them to win top brand products like Philips TV, CD player, Braun blender, juicer, household items and lots more. Besides the above mentioned sponsors, Carlsberg, Imperial Blue, Trisa, Fa, Johnson & Johnson and Wella joined hands to support the event.
The year 2002 held a special significance for Bluebird for launching the Bluebird branded shopper’s stop of Nike, Adidas, Reebok, Levi’s, Pepe Jeans, Bata and Octave and also for adding another floor at its Lazimpat outlet offering wide ranges of ladies, gents, children garments, cosmetics, fitness equipment and various other goods under just one roof, making shopping experience lots more fun, convenient and comfortable.
In October 2003, shoppers were delighted by Bluebird’s yet another creative scheme the ‘Bluebird Sunshine Hangama’. The scheme, which was hosted at both the outlets, offered shoppers 10 points on every purchase of Rs 1,000. The points were to be redeemed with fabulous gifts or accumulated to collect higher value gifts sponsored by Himalayan Distellery, Nepal Lever, Nike, Adidas, Reebok, Pepe Jeans, Delsey and Levis. The scheme added new color and charm to everyone’s shopping experience.
The wide spread popularity of such initiation, drove Bluebird to host the ‘Bluebird Festive Blast’ an equally interesting shopping bonanza, lasting from October 1 to November 15, 2004. The scheme which received huge media coverage was aimed at making shopping an altogether different and fun-filled experience. Shoppers were showered with gifts on collecting points on purchase of Rs 1,000 and above. The more points one accumulated, the higher value gifts they received. The event widely gained success with the promotional support of sponsors and the in-depth interest shown by our valued guests and customers.
ll these events succeeded brilliantly in showcasing what innovative schemes and concepts could do to create a mind-boggling achievement and draw large number of shoppers. It had been the most awaited events of the year with our customers looking forward to yet another milestone with each coming year. Bluebird, with all your love and support has been able to emerge triumphant in rewarding your demands and expectations and is now commemorating 20years of its success and glory.
