The Bluebird Department Store at Tripureswor is Nepal's first upmarket European styled self-service shopping centre, offering everything from groceries and luxury items to fashionwear - all under one roof. Quality and variety are the department store's hallmark.
Launched by its proprietor and executive director Mr. Binod Tuladhar on October 1, 1985, it was modelled upon European department stores with air-conditioned interiors, computerised sales counters, professional attendants and pre-labelled and immaculately arranged items on the shelves.
Owing to the trust of its growing number of customers, the department store added a level just two years after its launch and Level III in 1992. In 1994, the Bluebird Department Store underwent a major renovation and refurbishment to make it a one big stop for discerning shoppers. And in 2002, it launched the Bluebird Branded Shoppers Stop to make it easy for customers to pick up brand name products from a single floor.
From a floor space of 5,000 square feet in 1985, the shopping complex today covers a total of 55,000 square feet. Compared to 18 employees at the beginning, the Bluebird Department Store now has 160 employees in two outlets.
In 1989, a branch of the department store opened at Lazimpat. The three floors of the department store offer the same products as the parent shopping centre at Tripureswor.
The Bluebird Department Store's customers include local, tourists, expatriates, diplomatic core, hotels, business houses, INGOs and NGOs.
